Ezra Benson was very close to Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie. The question I have as a historian is how could Benson turn on him like this? Why would he persist in these kinds of things when it's clearly causing dissension within the church ranks? Well, he has a following for one. He's not mentally ill. He doesn't have some neuroses that I can think or see. He's functioning. But what drives him is this apostolic calling. This is why God wants him in the quorum. That's his Baliwic.
