Plato's Theory of the Soul in the Republic

The Republic is a treatise that seeks to use nature as the guiding star of ethics. Plato doesn't think you can go off and invent an entirely new kind of society, he says. He thinks that civilizations have been rising and falling since time immemorial - including many societies wiped off the map by cataclysms. For him, utopia is actually a critique of the idea of the common tapestry in which we all live.
