Porto Ricans Taking Things Into Their Own Hands
Some portoricans took matters into their own hands, creating beauty among the urban decay around them. They claimed abandoned lots and built more than a dozen casitas surrounded by gardens just like the ones that used to dot the porto rican countryside. The couple even added flax, or banbedas they called the site, il flamboan - after a tree with bright red flowers common in porto rico.
