The Perilous of the Pelopnesian Fleet

The Pelopnesian and Syracuse fleets were practicing their maneuvers far from Cisicus' harbor. The Athenians feared that the enemy would be able to catch sight of their approach, so they split their forces at the Arthaki Promontory. When Alcibiades' forces saw them approaching, they feigned panic and fled westwards. But when Mendars' fleet had sailed sufficiently far away from the harbor, Alcibiades raised a signal and his triremes didn't about face in order to turn around and face the enemy. Then, each quickly locked onto a target and charged at them with their ramps.
