Mary Bell's Lifelong Anonymity
At the age of 16, Mary Bell was transferred to an all-female prison for women. At 20 years old, she escaped from prison but was quickly recaptured. Four years later, at the age of 27, she gave birth to a daughter. In 1998, after moving and changing identities more than five times, the press found her and revealed her now 14-year-old daughter's identity. She won lifelong anonymity granted by the High Court for herself and her daughter in 2003. And also for her granddaughter, born in 2009.
