The Importance of Being a First Year College Student
There were a couple certainly at my undergraduate institution, one of whom was a very influential professor of American literature. And I think having somebody when you're 18 or 19 years old, really show interest in you in that dimension of your life is really incalculably valuable. But I didn't grow up in a household where we visited college campuses or knew anybody in our social circle that was an academic or professors or anything like that. So this was otherworldly to me, I guess you might say,. Those folks were helpful to me too.
