The first person a child takes as his loved object is usually the mother or her substitute. Freud on women is just this whole can of worms that I'd rather not, but he's always clear about it. It's the caretaker, it's the female caretaker for the little boy. And that investment is quickly met with the law of the father who bars access to the mother.
