The Beginning and End of the Book of Revelation

We always need to begin our interpretation of a biblical book, or any document, by asking what it would have meant to its original author and its original audience. This means we should not begin by interpreting revel on as primarily dealing with events that are still in our future. Isn't it possible to take soon in an unusual prophetic sense that does refer to our future? Most of the time authors use words in their established meanings. If they didn't, if they were always using usual senses, then their audience wouldn't know how to understand them.
