The Rise and Fall of Chaucer
Edward III launched what he thought would be the final campaign to secure the French Crown for himself. Chaucer is recorded as a soldier in Lionel's retinue during that campaign. The Black Prince was accompanied by his two other younger brothers, John of Gaunt and Edmund of Langley. And it's these young brothers that ultimately gave us the two distinct houses of Lancaster and York - whose descendants would battle for the English Crown during the Wars of the Roses.
