Are Stage Three Tax Cuts Really Necessary to Combat Bracket Crying?
Matt Welch: bracket creep is where over time your income rises in line with prices of stuff you buy. He says the average rate of tax, the amount of tax you pay as your income creeps up actually increases. The stage three tax cuts are bad when we look by occupation at who's going to benefit and who they're directed at, he adds. Welch: We could reskill the tax stage 3 tax cuts and concentrate on bracket creep. But if we did that, we'd take an enormous amount out of the top. It would give a lot more to the people at the bottom.
