Litvinenko's Life Story
Litvinenko joined the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1985. He served primarily in KGB counterintelligence until 1991 when the Soviet Union itself collapsed. Afterwards he became a member of the new FSB and served during the first Chechen war. By the late 1990s he was a senior operational officer in the Directorate of Analysis and Suppression of Criminal Groups within the FSB.
