The Struggle to Fit in With the Other World

Do you believe that this struggle is just part of the human experience? Is there any place where there isn't that struggle? I think the formula that you've described has a certain presumption. And so when I said earlier that one of our responsibilities as human beings is to fail, what I mean is ... it's better for all things concerned if humans are defeated in their sense of grandiosity and mastery and dominion. If your gratitude goes there, then your self-interest is not the boss. Your concern for the greater world is the boss,. and gratitude is your way of articulating that sense of responsibility to the world.
