i knew when i was moving to the country that i would be moving at least for the long term, you know. And i just made it a priority to start learning icelandic and trying to speak it as quickly as i could. It's quite a different society in a huge number of ways. I had no idea that iceland didn't have trains, even. But there's lots of lovely detail like that. You talk about the country having small nation complex. What do you mean by that? I say that also with fondness, because i grew up in canada,. which i think also has small nation complex."
'Sprakkar' is an ancient Icelandic word meaning extraordinary or outstanding women. It forms the basis of the new book by Eliza Reid, author and co-founder of the Iceland Writers Retreat, who is also the nation's First Lady.
