The Impact Factor of Journals

Every journal has an impact factor based on the circulation and how many people read that journal. The idea in academics is you want to be published in journals that have a higher impact factor because it's more prestigious. Altmetrics I think looks at more like that, right? So yeah, maybe I published something in a journal that has a low impact factor, but it is a manuscript that is targeted to a very small audience of neurocritical care patients. It doesn't matter that the whole world didn't read it.
