Dr. Sun Yat-sen started his reform by trying to interest the all-powerful Vice-Roy Lee-Hung-Shan in his plan for reform. He became a worldwide celebrity when he was kidnapped by the Manchu Legation in London, and they were going to ship him back to China for execution. But he managed to sneak out a message to an old friend of his, Dr. Cantley, who had been a missionary doctor in China.
