Straight-edge emerged in the punk rock and hardcore scenes of Washington, D.C., in the early 1980s. The idea was that one shouldn't be picked on or judged for the fact that they don't want to use alcohol nor do drugs. Now in 2023 is a worldwide movement with young people in many, many countries adopting the universal symbol as an identity.
New national health guidelines in Canada say any amount of alcohol consumption could lead to serious health risks. The guidance comes as more and more young people across Western nations are choosing Canada Dry.
