The Origins of Human Rights

Scholars say the idea of human rights arose in Christian Europe in the late Middle Ages. The Bible says that every single human being has been made in the image of God, reflects God in some way and therefore is of equal preciousness. There's a place in the Bible where it says you shouldn't even curse at people because they're beings in the Image of God. And there is no other culture that had a belief like that.
