The History of Market Gardening in London

London's size and growth stimulates all sorts of industries. One of those is gardening and orchards. A group of immigrants from Northern France that come over in the late 16th and early 17th century start doing forms of gardening. There they start a kind of tradition of market gardening around London which becomes enormously influential. For a time London was very much a garden city it was surrounded by agriculture and growing space right on its boundaries.
