The History of Martinique
In some ways, the French styles of Caribbean colonialism and racism were softer. African slaves on Martinique were offered more liberty and arguably more humanity than those in the American colonies. The native caribb people were driven further and further to the outreaches of the island until they were finally extinguished fully in 1660. Some managed to win exile, but most were killed, in what can only be called a genocide.
