Standing rock was not ignored and had a transformative impact, i think, on environmental consciousness in the us. Even when i started researching the climate crisis, i was most sort of shocked and appalled by...the idea that we could allow warming of the planet by two degrees celsius like this became sort of accepted wisdom. It was shocking to me to learn that governments were using this idea that doesn't come from climate scientists, but comes from economists,. To govern their own, their domestic climate policies and their international climate agreements.
