The Human Genome Project
The human genome project was a huge 10 plus year effort to sequence a map all human genes. Nothing that we've been able to do since really would have been possible, says Maria Cardona. Now as technology has advanced and particularly the repeat regions are pretty hard to sequence through I think we're pretty close now to a complete genome sequence not just for one individual but one which captures all the pieces of the genome that exist in most people somewhere on the globe.
