Tom Cruise is still the star, but he's not the Cruise of Maverick because that was not repeatable in any meaningful way. The fact that it's Tom Cruise doing insane action, set piece, whatever, which are executed like an incredibly high level is also essential to the appeal. I do think that there is like a meta knowledge of Mission Impossible as Tom Cruise does X that extends beyond just our podcast banter.
