Is There a Need for People With Different Perspectives Within Science and Engineering?

I think STEM is purposely exclusionary, so part of that is breaking down barriers. What got me into engineering and what broke down some of those barriers for me was being part of a STEM club run by the Design and Technology department in my school. It wasn't until I had those conversations with engineers who looked like me, who had similar backgrounds, did I realise that this is a sector that is in dire need of people with different perspectives. You know, how often you talk about science and engineering at home, your exposure to people with these careers really changes how you see it.
