The word chosen is definitely not in the Luke account. The Joseph Smith translation has a different reading of this verse. Women got married a lot younger than they do today. People could become engaged as young as 11 or 12. For a Latter-day Saint that leaves, this is a pre-mortal chosenness kind of thing.
