Tony Marino, the owner of the speak easy, had a wife, a family and an anger management problem. He would do things like smash up furniture and threatened to kill his wife and baby. During this period he took up with a 27 year old woman named Mabel Carlson. On March 17, 1932, police were called to Marino's house. Mabel Carlson was lying dead in the bed. An autopsy was performed and the doctor concluded that she died of bronchial pneumonia and had acute chronic alcoholism.
