Why Should Everyone Know a Bit of Convex Optimization?

I like the idea that sort of you know some advanced mathematical things like convex optimization actually they are very mathematical but they're also unbelievably useful which is super interesting. It's an incredibly important tool to actually solve optimization problems right? I mean people don't admit it when they're teaching these classes but the bottom line is we can't actually solve most of those problems rightYou just you just can't right and maybe that doesn't matter we have heuristics that do well. If you get a good model or if you make good predictions or if your hedge fund makes money you're fine you don't need to worry about that. There is a group of mathematical optimization problems that we can solve
