The Importance of Community Engagement in Pediatrics

As a woman and a daughter of immigrants, did anyone ever tell you you can't become a doctor? Well, actually nobody told me that until I got into higher education. My parents were really the guiding light in my life as a first gen child of immigrants. So we very quickly set up our own pre-med group at college for Mexican-American students. And we set upOur own little group and some peer education. We did it all by ourselves. But really the personal peer education was really invaluable. It helped us on a day-to-day basis.
