Carniolans - The Last of the Three Major Strains of Bees

Caucasians normally don't reach full strength before mid-summer and they tend to conserve their honey stores better than the Italians do. The last of the three major strains of bees are carniolans, also known as carnies, which can be identified by their dark coloring with brown bands on their abdomen. These are available but not super common.
