Between 18 82 and 25, young black women could be imprisoned if they were judged in danger of becoming morally depraved. Duncan: The archive is an unreliable witness but i don't find the bridewell archive inherently untrustworthy. You have to weigh up what are these circumstances? Are we able to rely upon the details that we're being told? And sometimes you just have to say, these are the details that i'm being told. It's the book on bridewell that's waiting to be written.
