The Concept of Complexity
Young divides the psyche a as consciousness, the personal unconscious, and the collective. The complex itself is an emotionally toned content of the personal unconscious. Young says that when we experience someone who reminds us of our father, what happens is that we might respond with our complexi rather than seeing the person as separate. It's through these emotional outbursts that we can tell the complex has been touched.
