Aquinas' Solution in the De Anima
The act of being doesn't lose its limited and determined nature after the body dies. The separated soul remains individually distinct, even though it's the same in species with other human souls. After all, essay is not simply poured into an essence like water or wax is poured into a container. It'snot an independent thing. So if you feel like we've been lost in abstraction, hopefully this will help make it more concrete for our minds to imagine.
