Fort St. Elmo: The Last Option for the Ottoman Fleet
Fort St. Elmo had only been built in 1552, after Turguud's last major assault on Malta. It was shipped like a star, as recent military engineering dictated, which gave the defenders good fields of fire. Its foundations were built on solid rock, so the Ottomans wouldn't be able to mine underneath it to collapse the walls. But the Fort Stonework wasn't of great quality and the sighting of the angled walls wasn't quite ideal.
