The author had a personal epiphany about the blissful experience of not thinking. He was working 65 to 70 hours a week because he was in very much demand for his job as a high-level piano technician. The next day, when he woke up and noticed how still his mind was, "his thoughts had thinned way, way out" It makes sense that you gave your book the subtitle, emotional freedom, which you were just talking about through deliberate thinking rather than as we were talking about being thought.
