Napoleon's biggest promise to the people of france had been peace, and he kept that one too. With every political and foreign policy success, napoleon himself seemed to grow in stature. He abandoned his comparatively austere general's uniform for an official first consul's outfit with extravagant gold trim. His face appeared on france's currency, just like a monarch. Old fashioned court life had made a comeback.
