How to Extract Nematodes From Soils
The way that we use extract nematodes is using a bearmine funnel. We usually preserve them because it's easier to identify them if they're not moving. And so based on those placements, again, we can tell if the system is really disturbed or a system was high in nitrogen. Certain nematodes only adapt to certain types of environments.
Christine Sprunger is a soil scientist and head of the Soil Health and Ecosystem Ecology Lab at Michigan State University.
