John is distinct among the gospel authors in many ways, but one of them is this, that he writes more synematically. John structured his narrative much more like a fuature film. He was scorsesi before they started handing out oscar's. The second thing that's going on is john, the author, is foreshadowing nicodemuss rejection of jesus. And what he hints at here in the beginning, he will drive a nail in at the very end.
