The value of a human being has become enormously more valuable because we no longer have to do the grunt work. There's very, very little value now in having a human being push a cart of building material or whatever from one part of town to the other as a car can do it much faster. And so if you really want to think about the abolition of slavery, we have to understand the role that energy played.
