The Origins of Autonomy in Ancient Greece

The idea of intentional action is in Aristotle, Plato's famous critique of democracy implies that there was a pretty firm notion of democracy then. autonomy was indeed an earlier idea but it wasn't performed as something concrete. The religion which took over the period between the ancient Greeks and the 18th century dominated European societies. It had become the basis, the fundamental principles on which all social structure had to be elaborated.
