The History of Cahokia

There are stories that seem to reflect Cahokia's trouble. The Osage speak of forebearers who, as they wander the middle world, happened upon a village surrounded by bleached-dried bones. By joining the Osage on their westward migration, the isolated earth clan was able to find a new home free of so much death. There are Cherokee stories, too, of an ancient case to priests who grew so powerful that even the earth rejected them, spitting out their bodies. Mounds then offered a solution, placed to contain their remains.
