The Problem With Europe's Train Systems
Europe's train systems don't yet seem prepared to entirely take over for the current levels of air travel. It's not really possible to book a ticket from one city to a different city in a different country oftentimes. The fundamental issues here are system differences all the way down to train design, carriage design and need to change locomotives on certain routes. National pride that separates the different European railway systems would be necessary to overcome those obstacles. But we shouldn't underestimate the innovation that's happening now, and I think one of the more promising developments is the revival of the sleeper car or night trains.
