There's been a contention about how people sure shouldn't be paid versus streaming. How does it actually work with the back catalog and who actually gets that money? They're not negotiating one off deals with each of these artists. Maybe let's talk through the majors and how that actually works for an industry standpoint. And we can talk about how, why that gets Taylor Swift up in arms or whoever the artist is.

Dan Runcie is a music industry analyst, writer, and the founder of the newsletter and media platform “Trapital.” Trapital focuses on the business strategies of hip-hop and offers insights into the intersection of culture and commerce in the industry. Runcie has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Billboard, and Forbes.
