The James Lang Theory of Emotion
The James Lang theory of emotion was influential for a while and still is in some circles but many people were sort of unhappy with this. It doesn't really explain how we go from the physiological response to the interpretation. The Cannon Bard theory says that the cognition and the physiological activation both occur essentially at the same time or round about the same time so arousal doesn't cause the emotion arousal kind of happens along with the emotion. So it's not clear what the interpretation actually is of if you're not highly aroused.
