Is the Universe Really Ending Up Like a Big Crunch?

Trying to think about infinity gives me the same brain tingle as trying to think about nothingness. We just can't say whether the universe will exist for ever forward in time, but current thinking is probably not. One possibility is that the universe spreads out into an evenly tempered muck and so that everything is the same temperature. This is called the heat death if the universe.
