The Origins of Cheshire Cats

Cheshire cat is a fictional cat popularized by Lewis Carroll and Alice of Ventures in Wonderland. It might be another name for a British short hair cat. There are already a bunch of disputes about whether or not it's even referring to the place in Cheshire. The origin is unclear, and it seems like it comes from the phrase grinning like a Cheshire cat.
