LinkedIn is trying to build smaller, private networks that are buffered against the effects of big algorithms. Having lots of small private conversations means that people invest in you and remember you. But once you start putting, I'm to pay for it, into the equation, then that kind of messes it up totally. The pressure for Microsoft is forcing them down this route.
