The Origins of the Collective Unconscious
Greek gods represent aspects of reality that over arch both the inner worlds of human experience and the external worlds of nature and society. Zeus, for example, literally means light or shower of light. For young, they were still alive in the sense that they were living archetypes in the collective unconscious of humanity.
