On the 29th of December 2019, Chinese authorities first identified a cluster of similar cases of pneumonia. By January 30, there were 9,776 confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide and there are now more than 100,000. Harvard epidemiologist Mark Lipsich has recently stated that his base case is that 40 to 70% of the global adult population will be infected in the absence of strong countermeasures.
