The Differences in Motivation
There are 7 billion people on the planet, so there's going to be significant variation across that very large sample. The fact that we have different weightings doesn't mean that the underlying principles are off. There's a mountain of evidence in developmental psychology on what's called generativity. When people age, get to a certain point in their life, generally when they're reckoning with mortality, that they actually begin to think in a much more purpose-driven way.
