Price Is Stiff, Prices Are Stiff

How and when prices are sticky is the great unsolved question of macro economics. Sometimes prices are slow to move, and sometimes they move overnight. If you don't have sticky prices, what happens? News comes, government drops five trillion dollars. Everybody gets a check. The price level goes up 30 % the next morning. That's not in the data, is it? Why not? Well, prices are sort of thicky; so what you see instead is people get extra money, they slowly start spending it, prices slowly go up. It just takes some equations to stromit.
