First Data Engineer How to Start Up?

The first few things are mostly cleanup related or at least in a beginning startup, unless they've very mindfully thought of data as a first class citizen. So if it's product shipping quickly, what does that mean on the data side? Like how much data would that generate? How much would that hurt the business on having a messy data infrastructure at this point?
